There is a lovely market town in Suffolk called Sudbury. I hadn’t been there before nor heard about it - but having spent some time there on a site visit I discovered all sorts of things about it.
And these findings informed my approach to the wayfinding project I was commissioned to create. The main thing I wanted to achieve was to create a suite of signage that expressed a sense of place. But I also wanted to create something that was sustainable for the client to manage and maintain. For this reason I chose Way2Go as my signage system. This is a versatile and modular system that allowed me to create bespoke elements, in particular, for the top of the artworks.

This allowed me to create a laser cut top unit that showed elements of Sudbury that I picked out so that they became part of the expression of Sudbury, creating something that was directly associated with the story of Sudbury. Each totem has a map with icons allowing people to easily find their around the town. The messaging on the map also encourages users to use the QR code to engage directly with the local offer. The heritage story is told on the reverse of the totems so that visitors and residents alike can learn a little bit of the history of the town.

Alongside the wayfinding scheme was fingerposts and gateway signs that followed the same design and colour suite of the wayfinding so that there was a unity of message.
