Engaging Interpretation at Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare

Steve Pardue September 12, 2017

The main focus for this round of interpretation was to present an interesting and exciting way for the education team to engage their visitors with and to assist with the running of their education activities.

So we designed for all the senses and embedded the activities into a set of four Sensory Posts. Each post has a set of three cubes which turn and have a combination of Audio, Visual, Smell and touch.

Drawing for the Sensory Interpretation Posts

The Sensory Interpretation Posts were made using natural Tricoya and FSC Douglas Fir posts. The posts were carved with animal footprints and the boxes house the engaging activities including things to touch and smell and a push button message.

The existing interpretive signage put in place over the last few years already had tactile interpretation woven into it through zinc etched rubbing discs and these continue to offer visitors with an engaging interpretive experience.
